- - Called Lowe's to schedule mower maintenance.
- - The plan doesn't cover routine maintenance.
- - BTTW warranty in Smithfield, VA was named.
Called Lowes customer service to schedule routine maintenance on a 1-year-old mower. The plan doesn't cover routine maintenance I was told it did.
The service provider when I asked before I bought the mower was Carroll Equipment a reputable local service center. They no longer do warranty work.
The customer service person identified BTTW warranty in Smithfield Virginia as the service provider. Ok call the number they couldn't tell me who what or when and then the fees for a simple task that I got for 15 years on my old craftsman.
The service contract is sold as including routine maintenance it doesn't, There is a great repair shop locally Smiths and son been around for 30 years does good reliable work why not use them in st marys county.
Finally, I dread a major repair being covered.
If you get an extended warranty hand write what the salesman says is covered and ask questions.
Preferred solution: identify repair company in st marys county md near lexington park
User's recommendation: Do not buy the extended warranty
Thank you Ashley Meador
- - Ashley Meador helped with Husqvarna mower issue and arranged quick service.
- - The warranty covered pickup/delivery; I got a check for the expense.
Ashley Meador of BWWT Warranty recently helped me with an issue with my Husqvarna Mower purchased from Lowe's 3 years ago. I took the mower to the service provider organized by Ashley, as it gave me a quicker turn around.
I have pick up and delivery included in my warranty, and turns out the problem was not covered, but I quickly received a check to cover my expense of taking it in myself, and I found a local repair company I liked and will continue to use.
From my first contact with Ashley, she was prompt and thorough in contact and follow up in all aspects. I could not have received better customer service...she was excellent .
- Prompt and thorough
Save your money
- - Warranty isn’t truly extended; it ends with the manufacturer term.
- - No extra coverage; Bttw mirrors the manufacturer.
- - Phone-only support; no email.
Purchasing the extended warranty from lowes and having Bttw cover it you might as well flush the money down the commode.
1. They advertise it as extended after the manufacturers warranty expires.
When you get the paper work it says it takes effect on the day you paid for it and ends 3 yrs later. The manufacturer warranty on a husq. tractor is 3 yrs extended warranty ends the same time,so whats extended?
2. There is no additional coverage for the husq.
warranty or the engine warranty. Bttw covers whatever the manufacturer covers, nothing more.
3. Their servicers are members recuited by the bttw group and repairs are sent to them for repair. They take the servicers word (in my case Hills Power Pro in Tullahoma,TN) for what the problem is and once a determination is made you can not challenge the diagnosis.
4.
They operate by phone only ,no email so you have no hard copy of what was discussed about you repair. Hello its 2019 get email!
To make a long story short. I had a problem with the carb on my new used 6 times lawn tractor purchase on 8/6/18. Went to mow grass on 4/22/19.
It ran for a minute no trouble ,engaged deck moved 6 ft would not stay running. It ended up sucking all the gas in the tank to the crankcase. It took a week before they could pick it up. It took another week before I got the verdict.
It was a bad carb not covered by warranty because Briggs & Stratton wont warrant failures do to improper maintenance. Stabil in the fuel I guess was not enough to keep this Chinese carb from falling over the winter. Bttw also will not cover because they follow briggs 1 year warranty. So It needs a NEW carb I was told a rebuild was never offered the cost $329 but the part is on back order and no idea when it will be available.
After a month and a half I asked if I could get a model number of the engine so i could try to find something that would work. I was told the part number instead, great!. After doing numerous searching even at briggs I could not get the part number to match to anything. Then i finally found it and what a surprise it was not a carb but a rebuild kit and it was on back order.
My cost $4.50 !! i bought one anyways. 2 weeks later i'm told the part is in and will be shipped to the servicer. Another two weeks goes by.
Since it was a rebuild kit I asked if I could have the old part(the carb they said they were waiting on)knowing I probably wont get it or get something they would say was my new carb. They said they think they still have it and if they can find it they will send it back with the mower.See picture, does that look like a carb that was on a engine for 6 mowings? Also notice how clean the engine is with my "new" carb? Why is the "new " carb not cleaner than the engine?
So I paid $329 to rebuild a carb with $4.50 in parts!!!
I f it did not cost so much i would take them both to small claims court.
Hills Power Pro and Bttw for deceptive practices.
Oh, my $349 extened warranty did pay for the pick up and delivery! Whoopie!!!
- Free delivery and pickup
- Everything else

Excellent
- - Understanding the company's role with the Big Box Store clarified things.
- - I was told everything would be covered, but that was a sales pitch.
Once I understood the role this company plays with the company I purchased the warranty from(Big Box Store), things were very clear. I was told everything would be covered and that was just a sales pitch from the company I purchased the warranty from (Big Box Store).
Wish I had read the review before I payed for lowes service plan
I think it a big rip off save you money !!!!!!!!!!
Preferred solution: Full refund
Addressing the wrong issue after a month of dodging calls
- - On Apr 7, 2019 the mower wouldn't start and the starter wouldn't engage.
- - A May 24 bill charged $128 for a battery, and the starter was not examined.
On April 7 2019 my lawn mower would not start. Being a part time mechanic I checked all normal issues.
The starter was not engaging the flywheel yet was running. I called BTTW since I have an extended warranty. I gave them the name of my POA along with number and email due to me deploying the following day. After a month of phone calls and having to submit a second request the mower finally had a date of pick up yet bttw reps would only address the battery since that is not covered.
I specifically wanted the starter looked at. Today my POA contacted me 05/24/19 stating I owe $128 for a new battery. After calling the shop the starter was never on the report and wasn’t to be looked at.
I was told the mower started but as before it did while I was away yet at times the starter would not engage. So instead of addressing a problem they put a new battery in that I did not need.
- Lying and not being listened to

Cancellation of picking up Trot Built mower
Don't know got cut-off
Really Rude
- - Extended warranty for a zero-turn mower; Lowes directed service to BTTW.
- - Pickup not offered; mower needed at shop in five days; Jo Smithfield calls.
So I have a really nice zero turn mower that I purchased from Lowes. I did buy the extended warranty.
Had some power issues so I called Lowes who was very nice and put me in touch with BTTW for arrangements. I spoke to Jo Smithfield who stated that pick up was not available in our area and the mower needed to be at the shop in five days. I purchased a trailer from Lowes and dropped my mower at the shop in the five days. The mechanic asks why I didn't just have them pick it up.
When I stated that option was never made available to me, he was shocked. I called Lowes and complained. The next day I started receiving harassing phone calls from Jo. I asked for her supervisor and she stated she did not have one.
I reached back out to Lowes and a very nice supervisor from BTTW contacted me. They apologized and I will do business with BTTW again but beware this Jo Smithfield person.
Another pissed off lowes Warranty

LOWES REPAIR SERVICE
- - A local shop picked up, repaired, and returned the rider.
- - I paid out of pocket; not a warranty issue.
- - Customer service was good; repair held.
I have had the displeasure of needing repairs on my rider and was put through to this company who is in charge of setting up service. They got a local shop to have it picked up, repaired and returned. It was not a warranty issue so I paid out of pocket for repair.
All in all the customer service was good and the repair stuck.
Ive been reading the reviews and it seems a lot of the complaints are due to things out of this companies control. Lowes is who determines what is covered. Or if you still have warranty that came with it (I did not) then whomever made it does. Also on Lowes website it spells out what is (and is not) covered under their warranty. Also the time it takes for machine to be repaired also has nothing to do with them I don't think.
I only wrote a review (as most reviews are only written by people with complaints) to make a point. You cant be mad at a company for things out of their control.

Verified ReviewerWhere the *** is my mower?
- - Bought a Troy-Bilt from Lowe's; service contracted to BTTW.
- - Mower pickup damaged yard; no paperwork; back-ordered part; $150 mowing.
I had a problem with a 1 year old Troy BIlt I bought from Lowe's. They obviously contracted BTTW to get the work done.
Bad idea. Wen the 12 year old came to pick it up, he go stuck in my front yard, tearing up the grass. My wife had to help him get his truck out. He didn't have her sign any paperwork, and didn't let us know where the mower was going.
We were told 2 weeks MAX, and we'd have the mower back. Fast forward 4 weeks. No mower. No word!
FInally I launch an offensive and call a bunch of people and finally get some answers: Back order. A part is on back order. Ok, I get that. Unfortunately, I have had to pay someone to mow my 3 acres twice in the last 4 weeks, putting me $150 out of pocket.
Finally, this harpy named Jo Smithfield calls and tells me 'If you want to complain, complain to Troy-BIlt' and basically reams me out in a 3 minute voice mail tirade about how I'M being unreasonable. . . .
. .
She's a nasty, nasty person. I'll just fix the damned thing myself next time.

Unnecessary Middle Man
- - BTTW Warranty has poor customer service.
- - The mower needed three visits; belt shredded.
- - Total costs about $310; Lowe's can handle the warranty.
In trying to have my lawn mower repaired for a warranty issue, the most difficult component has been dealing with BTTW Warranty. They are inept at customer service. Failures to return calls, execute claims or deal with rightfully angry people are issues for this service provider.
To add context, our mower is on its third visit to the shop in as many months (3-4 weeks per visit). It began with a transmission issue. Upon getting back from the shop, the serpentine belt shredded. This happened again immediately upon getting it back from that repair.
At this point, we have paid $80 for 2 pickups, about $50 in shipping for parts (not covered) and about $160 to have our grass cut. The total ($310) exceeds the cost of the extended warranty.
I would like to think that continued customer failures would get their attention, but we are treated more like a problem than a customer.
At this point, I have learned that this company is simply a middle man, and Lowes can execute the warranty if that is requested.
BTTW is horrible
- - Ongoing Troy-Bilt chipper/shredder issues; BTTW warranty unresponsive.
- - Escalating to Lowe's corporate and the NY AG.
i have been trying to get Lowes to fix the chipper / shredder i bought, Troy Bilt, which has had constnat problems since i bought it. I have been dealing with BTTW warranty, who are rude, incompetent, and refuse to answer the phone.
I have finally given up on them, and going back to Lowes to complain. This company should have NOTHING to do with the Lowes warranty process. Linda is particularly rude, she just hung up on me. We have been calling her for a week, she never answers, then calls back at odd times.
Today she decides she needs my original purchase price. How would i know that? Why does it matter? i have never been asked by Lowes warranty about an original price, which they clearly have in their system, and feel this is just her attempt to avoid doing her job.
When i complained she said "bye" and hung up.
She needs to be in a business OTHER THAN customer service. I am now escallating this to Lowes corporate, and the NYS Attorney Generals office for failure to abide by an extended warranty.
Don’t bother with lowe’s Extended warranty
- - Linda works from home and responds on her schedule.
- - Do not purchase Lowe's Lawn Tractor; service is subpar and warranty is limited.
The contact person for bttw is a person who obviously works from home and works when she wants to.
You can call all day and leave all the voice mails you want, but Ms Linda will get back to you when she gets ready.
I recommend never purchasing Lawn Tractor from Lowe’s as the customer service is sub par at best and extended warranty means that you will only get what the manufacturer warrants the equipment . Please do not waste your money.
Poor customer service response by BTTW and Lowes extented warrant.
August, 2017, I purchased a Troy Bilt Lawn Tractor from Lowes. The mower was throwing grass as I was cutting.
I contacted Lowes and was told I needed a mulching kit. I purchased the mulching kit and they came out asap to pick up the mower and installed the kit and returned the mower within a couple of days.
But now a loud noise occurs when the cutting blade is engaged and clumps of grass is coming out and uneven cutting. I called Lowes' Customer Service and was referred to BTTW. I received an email from Kim Compton, Senior Agent for BTTW.
I requested a day and approximate time the mower is to be picked. This request as made via email and phone message (757-349-****). No response that day. I tried to leave another phone message but her message box was FULL and this is the senior agent.
I did get email asking if M & M picked up my mower. I have no idea who that is and no they did not pick up the mower. I finally received a phone call from Kim Compton with BTTW and was told Reides Buy & Sell would pick up the mower on 7/6/2018 sometime that day but they would call 30 minutes before. I live in Pinellas County and this repair company is 1 1/2 hours from me.
I was told it would take two weeks for the repair. I explained to Kim Compton, Pinellas County is the most populated county in the State of Florida. I can't believe this is the only company to service my mower! I
was told this second company was the only company she could fine.
This is POOR customer service provide by BTTW who is under contract with Lowes. SO DON'T BUY LARGE ITEMS FROM LOWES AND PAY FOR A SERVICE CONTRACT THAT AN INCOMPETENT COMPANY IS TO SERVICE!!!
Preferred solution: Find a local repair company and get the repair done timely.

*won't...not want Also, it's highly unlikely (not impossible) for a transmission belt to twist on it's own. It could have been put on incorrectly. You might WANT to watch a You Tube video on it.
It can twist if the sub frame or transmission cross member breaks.
